Theme: ‘Business continuity starts with you’
What is it: The Business Continuity Awareness Week (BCAW) campaign was designed by the BCI to help organizations across the globe to raise internal awareness of the importance of business continuity, its basic and essential best practices, and how to embed it within the organizational culture. In the last few years, the campaign has explored new themes and expanded in new and trending topics, but for this year we are taking it right back to the start. The pandemic and its consequent disruptions have shed a light (once again!) on how important it is for businesses, of any size and in any industry sector, to have business continuity plans in place. BCI research has also showed that organizations with business continuity plans in place were able to respond to the pandemic much more effectively compared to those without business continuity measures in place. But the pandemic has also demonstrated that business continuity is not just a ‘plan’; it is a process, a collaborative discipline that involves everyone within an organization – and not just one individual. Business continuity works best when employees are engaged and aware of their organization’s plans in case of a crisis; when they know how to behave to mitigate risks and threats; and when they know how to react to certain situations. Business continuity starts with each member of staff, from top to bottom.
